Listening Session: Use of Church Land

Dear First Pres members: please plan to stay after worship service on July 12th to participate in a congregational listening session regarding potential uses of some of our church land. While nothing is planned at this time, Session would like to understand congregational views and gain consensus on what could be considered in the future. The meeting will be held in the sanctuary directly following the service.
As background, our church property is almost 14 acres. Anywhere from 5 to 8 acres of this could possibly be used for a housing ministry, affordable housing, or other projects. We have been approached a few times over the past 10+ years with proposals that were addressed by either Session or the Board of Trustees. At no time, however, was the congregation surveyed to see if there was any interest in pursuing uses for our land versus leaving it untouched.
The listening session on July 12th will give our congregation the opportunity to learn of our land status, talk about potential uses of it, and allow the members to express their opinions and ask questions. Following the listening session, a printed survey will be distributed to each active member allowing them to note their wishes on how our land might be used. Survey responses will be due to the church office by July 22nd, after which time the results will be communicated to all members.
