Children and Youth Learning
Sunday School meets every Sunday from 10-11 am in the Lower Sanctuary, during the worship service. Signs on the ceiling there indicate where the Sunday School’s main room is located. Sessions run from September through mid-May, which is when we usually stop for the summer.
Parents should bring their youth and children with them to the worship service in the sanctuary. After the Children’s Message from the pastor, volunteers will take the youth and children—Kindergarten through Grade 5—downstairs for the remainder of Sunday School. Parents should pick up their youth and children in the Children’s Library after the worship service.
Our Mission Statement for the Children and Youth Learning ministry is
- Teach the wonder of God’s love for children
- Encourage excitement about worshiping God through interesting activities
- Nurture the total child – personal, interpersonal, and spiritual
- Create church-wide support for children
We use the PC(USA) curriculum, Growing in Grace and Gratitude. This curriculum encourages children to not only learn biblical stories but also think about how the lessons apply to their lives.
Nursery
Our church nursery provides a safe Christian space for children from infancy to PreK. It is located in the lower sanctuary area and is open from 9:30 to 11:30 am during each Sunday church service. Our Children’s Learning Committee puts health and safety first. Every child must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian every Sunday.
Every caregiver wears a badge, has passed a background check, is Covid vaccinated, and has agreed to follow the church’s Child Safety Policy. Paid staff are trained in CPR for infants and children. Our space is organized into two zones to meet the needs of both infants and preschoolers. We clean our age-appropriate colorful toys after each use before returning them to their shelves.
Adult Christian Learning
The purpose of Adult Christian Learning is to promote the Biblical and Theological Literacy of the congregation and to encourage growth toward spiritual maturity for all adults. We meet in the Parlor of Memorial Hall every week following worship service, from 11:30 to 12:30. Our meetings are informal, educational, and fun—plus, we have snacks. Please join us!
Our studies explore a variety of books and topics based upon direct studies of books in the Bible, aspects of Christianity, or living as Christians in today’s world. The weekly discussions are largely self-contained, so you can jump in at any time without worrying about what you may have missed in earlier weeks.
